  4. This file answers frequently asked questions about Freenet, which 
  5. includes the answers to a number of common problems encountered by
  6. people using it for the first time.

  14. Q1 - I get a data abort when I run the startup file/when I use
  15.      slattach to configure my serial interface.

  17. Q2 - My modem seems to be sending lots of data, but nothing ever
  18.      comes back - the RX light just stays dead.

  20. Q3 - FreeNet never seems to send anything to the serial port, even
  21.      though *slstat shows that SLIPdriver has sent things.

  23. Q4 - FreeNet refuses to find/talk to my ethernet card.

  30. Q1 - I get a data abort when I run the startup file/when I use

  33. A1 - You need to install a more recent version of the serial
  34.      blockdrivers - the latest version can be found in the
  35.      directory /pub/archimedes on ftp.demon.co.uk.

  40. A2 - You probably have a speed mismatch between that used by your
  41.      dialler, and that used by the SLIP driver (check the slattach
  42.      line in !FreeUser.Startup to see what that is using).

  44.      Alternatively, you may be trying to use ArcTerm to dial, and
  45.      then quit it without dropping the line and start FreeNet. Don't
  46.      do this, as it won't work - this is an ArcTerm bug.

  48. Q3 - FreeNet never seems to send anything to the serial port, even
  49.      though *slstat shows that SLIPdriver has sent things.

  51. A3 - The serial hardware sometimes seems not to wake up (this is
  52.      especially true with fixed serial links where you havn't used
  53.      a dialler). I don't know why this is, but you can force it
  54.      to wake up with OS_SerialOp,2,50.

  56. Q4 - FreeNet refuses to find/talk to my ethernet card.

  58. A4 - You probably have an older DCI-2 driver for your card. This won't
  59.      work with FreeNet 2. You should be able to get a DCI-2 driver from
  60.      the supplier of your ethernet card, but if not then I'm afraid
  61.      you'll have to stick with FreeNet 1.02 which uses DCI-2.

  63. Q5 - FreeNet won't work with SLIPdriver 1.xx.

  65. A5 - Indeed. Those versions of the SLIP driver are DCI-2 drivers and
  66.      will currently only work with FreeNet 1.02 and earlier.
